Group Reaches $300K in Giving to Local Nonprofits

December 1, 2021

(Anchorage, Alaska) – A local group of Anchorage women came together with a shared mission – to provide meaningful contributions to Anchorage. One pandemic and seven years later, the group is still going strong and have contributed nearly $320,000 to 26 nonprofit organizations serving the Municipality of Anchorage!

The concept is simple. Without using expensive events or time-consuming fundraisers, individual contributions are compiled for the greater good. Four times a year a group of 100 or more women from the Anchorage area come together for a one-hour meeting and each participant makes a $100 donation to a vetted 501c3 charity selected by the group that evening. This combined donation of approximately $10,000 makes a significant impact for one organization each quarter.

December 2nd will mark the 7th anniversary of 100+ Women Who Care Anchorage. Co-Founders Kristi Acuff and Darci Ahlin-Stieren were inspired to start a giving circle after learning of other giving circles across the nation. “Our members are busy and have hearts to give back, so we find keeping things simple - meeting for one hour quarterly and combining our individual $100 donations - results in making a strong impact in supporting the good charitable work going on in our local community.” Their work over the years has since been recognized, as they were honored with the 2021 Outstanding Volunteers in
Philanthropy Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

The next meeting (and first in-person meeting in almost two years) will be Thursday, December 2nd at the Lakefront Anchorage. All Anchorage-area women are invited to join. Attendees will hear from the prior quarter recipient and a new charity will be selected for the end of 2021.
